Helping autistic young people move into adulthood
This course has been designed to provide tools and insight to help parents and professionals to support and empower young people on the autistic spectrum, particularly as they move through their teen years and transition into adulthood. Alex will share his experience and enable you to gain a greater insight into the unique challenges faced by young people on the autistic spectrum. A number of sections from Alex’s training DVD ‘Growing up with autism’ will be included in this training.
In this course you will go on a journey with Alex, as he shares his experience of growing up. He talks candidly about: how he used to feel ashamed of his autism; how his attempts at fitting in failed; and how he learnt to accept and embrace his autism.
This course would also be useful for a parent to share with their autistic teen. A certificate of hours studied is available and the end of this course. Throughout this training we will be using both terms ‘has autism’ and ‘autistic.’ There is quite a bit of debate around what terms should be used. If you’re interested, here are Alex’s views on the subject.
